Harp Isles Diets

What you can eat is the real starter pick — the render is second.

Diets Guide

Diet is the first mechanical choice in Harp Isles. First-run footage shows DNA strands you drag to a research port. Streams said herbivore and omnivore out loud. The FAQ framed the core trio as carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore, and sidestepped promises of piscivore or insectivore. Play the trio until the UI adds a fourth icon.

Herbivore

Plants, fruit piles, nodes that do not fight back. Best beginner diet. You still die to players, birds, flytraps, and disasters. You just do not have to win a 1v1 to eat breakfast. Spawn at plant-rich pins from Getting Started.

Stack food before a flood. Plant nodes can submerge. Acid rain is still a problem; leaves are not an umbrella.

Omnivore

Plants plus meat. Best diet if servers are uneven — fruit when the hunt is contested, corpses when the forest is empty. Omnivores teach the whole loop without forcing a main. If you do not know what you like, this is the starter planner default.

Carnivore

Hunts, corpses, maybe fish if the body can swim. Highest ceiling on the best avatars list, highest starve rate for new players. NPC birds and sharks exist; they also exist to kill you. Do not main this until you can land flight or hide in a cave on purpose.

Adult player kills were a tester mission. That is not a food source. That is PvP homework.

Extra diets

The FAQ asked whether piscivores and insectivores would exist or whether the game would stay on the trio. Treat extra diets as unconfirmed. If a creature clearly eats fish in a clip, it may still be tagged carnivore or omnivore in UI. Believe the tag.

Diet is not a palette

You cannot paint a herbivore into a carnivore. You play a different Avatar. Subspecies do not change diet. Events might add tagged bodies; they will not recode your current stomach.

Practical rules

  1. Pick diet before you pick a cool wing.
  2. Match pin to diet.
  3. If you starve twice, change diet, not sensitivity.
  4. Packs can share a carcass; they cannot share a plant node as politely as you hope — herbivores still compete.
  5. Trading a carnivore you cannot feed is how you buy shame with shards.

When a fourth diet ships, it will be added here with a spawn note. Until then, the trio is the game.

Matching diet to disasters and water

Floods punish herbivores who never learned a high pin. Acid rain punishes everyone who farms in the open. Meteor showers punish carnivores crouched on a corpse. Diet does not cancel weather — disasters do not read your DNA strand. Still, food type decides whether you can restock after you hide. Herbivores should memorize two plant nodes at different heights. Carnivores should memorize a bird loop and a corpse fallback that is not in the most popular valley.

Water is a diet multiplier. If fish count for your tag, swim practice is food practice. If they do not, water is only escape and sharks. Do not assume a cinematic bite on a fish means piscivore. The UI tag wins.

Pack diets

A pack of four carnivores is a corpse riot. Mix one herbivore sitter with hunters so someone can watch the nest while the meat squad is out. Diet diversity is a nest strategy, not a personality test. See packs and trading.

If you keep starving after a diet change, the pin is wrong. Change the pin before you change the species a third time. The starter planner exists specifically so you stop this loop.,

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Harp Isles questions.

How do I choose a diet?

Drag a DNA strand on first run, or pick an Avatar whose tag matches. Herbivore is the safe starter.

Can I change diet later?

Not on the same body. Play another Avatar.

Are piscivores in the game?

Not promised. The FAQ kept carnivore, herbivore, omnivore as the core.

Does diet affect the skill tree?

Indirectly. Food security decides whether you can sit through research.
