Subspecies Guide

Subspecies are the build layer on top of an Avatar. The recode team showed that two forks of one creature can fly differently. Testers talked about health, damage, and speed as the basic trio, plus new patterns, palettes, and physical changes. This page is biology and unlocks. Power ranking is on the subspecies tier list.

Basic forks

  • Health — thicker mistakes, slower chases, better disaster survival.
  • Damage — faster kills, greedier food, pack-friendly.
  • Speed — better aborts, worse hunger, worse caves.

They keep the species diet. A speed herbivore is still a herbivore. Read diets.

Unique forks

Not every fork is a stat triangle. Footage highlighted:

  • Two-Jactal — flight-stat proof of concept.
  • Sentis’ Areni — asymmetrical silhouette.
  • Alyo / Alyorux lines — extra subspecies videos.
  • Bleed Santa Hiros — item grant from early-access missions.

If a fork only recolors a part, it is a palette, not a subspecies. Palettes buy with shards or Robux and do not belong in this argument.

Apexes

Reviewers described subspecies and apexes as size/stat/look shifts. Treat apex as a higher gate. Do not assume every species has one on day one. When the UI says Apex, it is real. When a YouTuber says Apex, it might be a big health fork.

How you get one

Tester loot included a free named subspecies, mutation vials, and DNA. Live unlocks may be:

  • Growth milestones.
  • DNA shop.
  • Event drops on the events calendar.
  • Trade hub (specimens were announced as tradable).

Until the button exists on your Avatar, you do not have it. Do not buy a “subspecies unlock” file from a stranger.

When to apply a fork

After one adult on the default body. Applying a speed fork to a baby you cannot feed is how growth feels impossible. Apply, then retune the skill tree — mobility nodes on a speed fork, survival nodes on a health fork.

Mutations versus subspecies

Mutation vials were a tester reward. Mutations sound like extra rolls on top of a fork, not a replacement. If the live UI merges them, this paragraph will shrink. Until then, keep vials in the bank.

Trade named forks slowly. Launch prices are fiction. Use packs and trading in-hub only.

If you only remember one thing: subspecies change how the Avatar plays, not what it eats. Pick food first, fork second.

Reading the live fork UI

Look for a subspecies tab on the specimen, not a palette slider. Palettes change color. Forks change mass, wing shape, or listed stats. If the only difference is a gradient, you bought a cosmetic. Refund policy is Roblox’s, not ours.

When testers said health/damage/speed, they also said later forks would be more unique than those three words. Believe that when the node names stop being generic. Until then, play the triangle.

Applying a fork mid-growth

Some games let you fork as a baby. If Harp Isles does, you still should not. Hunger scales. A speed baby that was cute becomes an adult furnace. Grow default, then fork, then retune research. If the game blocks forks until adult, that is a gift. Take it.

Mutation vials stacked on a fork you do not understand is how you create a museum piece you cannot feed. Bank vials through Ashes Awakening unless the tooltip is painfully clear.

Trade value will be fictional for weeks. A named fork is not a house deposit. If you must trade, use the hub in packs and trading and screenshot both sides. Discord middlemen are how accounts leave the isles.,
